Warning : This content contains spoilers for the new Black Adam movie, now and in the future.
DC's new anti-hero movie Black Adam has an after-credit scene at the end, as one would expect from modern superhero movies. This scene was pretty shocking and it's sure to get DC fans excited. That's why we're going to detail what's happening on stage and explain how this affects the future of the DCEU.
What Happened in the Black Adam After-Credits Scene?
The movie ends with Black Adam (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) reaching some sort of agreement with the Justice League (Justice League) and Adrianna (Sarah Shahi) that he will remain the protector, not the ruler, of Khandaq. However, the after-credit scene shows us that there is someone else who wants to have a say in this matter.
In the Stinger scene, we see a drone flying over Black Adam in Kahndaq, projecting a hologram of Task Force X, aka Suicide Squad leader Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). It's Waller's job to track down superhuman threats, and it is he who consults Hawkman (Aldis Hodge) early in the movie about Black Adam's awakening in the present. In the 2016 movie Suicide Squad, Waller signaled that Task Force X would be used in response to the next Superman-level threat. Now that threat has come, and the threat itself will be Black Adam.
Throughout the film, Black Adam has undoubtedly proven to be a being with considerable destructive power, but with a soft spot for his country and people, so Waller uses that to his advantage. As he dictates his terms to Black Adam, he grants him free reign over his homeland, but warns him never to cross Kahndaq's borders. And to show his strength, he made a veiled threat that someone of Black Adam's level would take care of him if necessary.
Naturally, this threat does not scare Adam much. He responds by saying that there is no one else at his power level and ends the conversation by destroying the drone. When the conversation is over, Superman emerges from the smoke and meets Black Adam's eyes.
Clearly, Waller knew Black Adam wouldn't respond well to his terms, and he already has Superman on standby. Why the Man of Steel owes Waller a favor has yet to be revealed.
Superman approaches Adam and says they need to talk. Later, the character's facial expressions change to show an expression of intrigue on his face, and the scene ends just when he is about to respond. Considering that the anti-hero has beaten Hawkman into a punching bag throughout the entire movie and that even the last villain, Sabbacc, was defeated without much effort, we're excited that he'll meet a worthy challenger at the end of the story.
When Will Black Adam Fight Superman?
In fact, years ago Johnson a video by BossLogic showing Black Adam fighting Superman She shared concept work, so this is something she's been working on for a long time. And now it seems dreams will come true.
As for when and where Black Adam will meet Superman, this is currently unknown. The most natural place for this to happen would be in the character's second movie, but a sequel has yet to be announced. A recent article from The Hollywood Reporter said that the studio is actively developing a Man of Steel sequel starring Cavill, so perhaps Black Adam will be the villain of this movie. The future of the DCEU remains uncertain at the moment. DC doesn't have a clear roadmap and it can hit big shakes out of nowhere (RIP Batgirl), so we'll have to wait and see when these two super-entities clash.
Interestingly, Black Adam's movie does not openly admit that the character is linked to Shazam. (although it shows that they both got their powers from the Wizard (Djimon Hounsou) in Rock of Eternity.) This is an odd choice given that Black Adam has been a longtime enemy of Shazam in the comics and they share common origins and powers. Definitely, we would have expected Waller and Justice Society to be aware of Shazam after the events of the 2019 movie, so it's strange that they didn't return to him, and instead Waller chose Superman to face him. This can result in some annoyance, because in the comics Superman is as weak to magic as he is to Kryptonite.
