Blizzard announced on Twitter today that it will be renaming Jesse McCree and delaying the start of Overwatch's next story arc. The change comes after the real-life developer named after the cowboy character left the company due to the ongoing turbulent process of the California lawsuit accusing the company of widespread sexual harassment and discrimination.
“We built the Overwatch universe around the idea that inclusion, equality and hope are the building blocks for a better future,” the development team said in a statement. “As we continue to discuss how best to meet our values and demonstrate our commitment to creating a game world that reflects them, we believe it is necessary to rename the hero currently known as McCree to one that better represents what Overwatch is all about.”

Blizzard had previously planned to launch a new narrative arc on Overwatch in September, but the content was delayed to later in the year as McCree plays a prominent role. Meanwhile, a new FFA map will be added to the game.
