The Resident Evil 4 remake was first announced during PlayStation State of Play. The game was showcased in more detail during the Capcom Showcase event. It gave fans an idea of what awaits them in the game, with gameplay footage and more details.
Director Yasuhiro Anpo and producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi shared a few details about the project. Anpo and Hirabayashi reaffirmed that the game is a "re-imagination" of the 2005 original and that they want to preserve the identity of the original game but update it with modern embellishments. They want to make sure that the original game retains the "fear and lonely feeling" while still having exciting battles.
The game retains a third-person perspective, as expected. Anpo and Hirabayashi said the game will look familiar to anyone who's played the last Resident Evil 2 or 3 remakes. In the in-game scenes shown, we saw our main character, Leon, walking through a dark, crow-filled forest and bending over various vines. The images shown did not contain any gunshots.

Resident Evil 4 will be released for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (via Steam) on March 24, 2023.
