Former Counter-Strike 1.6 pro Martin “trace” Heldt has become head coach of the Lyngby Vikings, the organization announced today.
The Danish team tried out the 31-year-old last month and the player proved worthy of the spot after he recently led the team to great results. Lyngby Vikings reached number 28 in HLTV's CS:GO rankings.
Trace's tenure with the Lyngby Vikings marks Dane's return to the coaching role after leaving Singularity in July. Still, this isn't the 1.6 legend's first time in CS:GO. He attempted to return to the stage as an actor for mTw and Fnatic in 2012 and 2015, respectively.
Making his mark as a coach last month, the Lyngby Vikings achieved impressive results, achieving a prestigious position in HLTV's top 30 teams. Trace's players reached the semi-finals of Malta Vibes Knockout Series Two and won the Funspark ULTI 2021 Europe Three.
The 31-year-old player is mostly known for his achievements in CS 1.6. Over the years he has represented well-known organizations such as SK Gaming, Fnatic or Spirit of Amiga. Old-school viewers of Counter-Strike may remember him best as part of mTw. There, he appeared on numerous tournament podiums such as World Cyber Games, Intel Extreme Masters or DreamHack, among other legends such as Danny “zonic” Sørensen.
. HLTV recognized him as the third and fourth best player in the world in 2010 and 2011, respectively. He fell out of favor after moving to CS:GO and never made it to the top as a pro.
