How to complete Phantom Oxcart while playing Dragon's Dogma 2?
The Phantom Oxcart mission comes from Oxcart drivers in Vernworth. Basically, while they're accomplishing main mission objectives in the capital, you can overhear them talking about a ghostly transport that only appears at night. This sounds pretty scary, considering bullock carts are one of your main methods of fast travel and drivers only start crossing the roads during the day.
However, it's up to you to investigate. Follow the quest and spend time at an inn or bench in the evening. Then, go to the marked location.
The true nature of Phantom Oxcart
Once you arrive at the marked location just north of Vernworth, you'll realize what the Dragon's Dogma 2 Phantom Oxcart quest really is: a transport that engages in the slave trade of pawns.
Corrupt soldier Navil is trying to escape, so follow him. When you catch him, he will confess his crime and give you his Merchant's License.. You can let him go (he will even give you gold) or send him to prison.
How can you disguise yourself as a pawn?
Whatever you decide, return to Brant in the tavern and give him the Merchant's Certificate. Brant suggests investigating the Ghost Oxcart further. Now you have two options:
- Follow the Phantom Oxcart to see where it goes.
- Disguise yourself as a pawn and hitchhike.
To be honest, we cannot confirm how to trigger the first option, since the transport remains idle even if it has not noticed us. Therefore, we opted to ride it instead.
So how exactly do you disguise yourself as a pawn? Simple: remove all your character's weapons and armor – rings don't matter. If your character is wearing only underwear, the coachman will tell you to join the other pawns in the back. This also gives you “Are We There Yet?” It also brings success.
Dragon's Dogma 2 Phantom Oxcart – Journey from Vernworth to Bakbattahl
The Phantom Oxcart will then travel along the road at night. The driver will also talk about pawns and how much he hates them. A few notable events will occur and you will need to fulfill some requirements:
- Goblins will attack the vehicle at night. Abandon the car and eliminate them all without wearing any weapons or armor. The charioteer will remain deceived and the chariot will continue to move along the road.
- When you arrive at Checkpoint Rest Town, some guards will start harassing the pawns. Don't attack them and just punish them.
Fighting for your life and potential problems
Eventually the Phantom Oxcart will arrive at the south gate of Bakbattahl. Once all pawns are asked to kneel, the guards will realize that you are an impostor. They will become hostile, which means you can now wear your weapons and armor again.
Here's what you need to know about this match:
- You have to fight more than half a dozen Bakbattahl guards. Most of them are Warriors and will beat you to death with their shields.
- Your own pawns will appear next to you. However, they seem faulty as they will just sit idle. In fact, you may need to revive them several times as they will continue to deactivate.
- Try to defend yourself against the guards and defeat them as best you can.
After defeating your enemies, you can return to Vernworth. Report your findings to Commander Brant and issue him Labor Requisition Orders. This completes the Dragon's Dogma 2 Phantom Oxcart quest. You'll receive 4.000 XP, 14.500 gold, and a Momentum Ring (i.e. a moderate boost to maximum stamina) for your efforts.
