Eternal Fire defeated OG in the fifth round of the European Regional Major Ranking (RMR) A to qualify for the PGL Antwerp CS:GO Major.
There was no clear favorite in the match. OG had hoped to qualify for the Major in May, which would be the team's first since it entered the CS:GO scene. On the other hand, no Turkish team has played in the Major since Eternal Fire aims to rewrite history (after Space Soldiers' fight at FACEIT Major: London 2018). After a close 2-0 win, they made exactly the start of this history.
The match started in Vertigo, Eternal Fire's map selection. Initially, OG dominated the game and developed a confident, 7-0 score on the CT side. But then they let their opponents rally until they had won a few rounds and reached a 12-7 scoreline. However, then the star defense of the Turkish representatives stepped in and with a spectacular comeback, Eternal Fire won the map 16-14.
The second map, Dust2, started the opposite of Vertigo. There, Eternal Fire snatched the first five rounds and then OG started making a comeback. The first half finished with a fairly even 8-7 for the Turkish team, who couldn't turn the second pistol round win into a bigger lead. After a few rounds, XANTARES led their team to game point, making the score 15-11, but OG almost created a second comeback in the series. However, in the final round, valde and niko were unable to stop Eternal Fire's entry into the B site, resulting in a second score for the Turkish team that ended the series 16-14.
With this victory, Eternal Fire became the sixth team to qualify for the upcoming Major in the European RMR A. At the same time, FaZe Clan took a direct spot in the Legends Stage, ranking higher than teams with a 3-1 score. Therefore, later in the day, Natus Vincere will face forZe for the last place in the stage.
Two more teams will participate in PGL's tournament in Antwerp. The winner of the matches between MOUZ and Team Vitality , Outsiders vs sAw will qualify for Majore.
