“To be continued…in season eight.”
Season eight of Fortnite Chapter Two kicked off yesterday, but Epic Games had its own farewell party today as part of an in-game event called Operation: Sky Fever. The mini-mission sent players deeper into the Mothership, asking many more questions than it answered. The event is the culmination of Slone's plans to "End the Invasion once and for all" during the seventh season.
When the event started, the Mothership kidnapped the players and sent them to small cells. Players received a backpack with a visor that counted from zero seconds to one minute, and then displayed a holographic alien symbol. The doors opened and the cast had to navigate the ship to continue the teaser.
After going through a series of doors and getting rid of ships and alien butlers, players were hooked up to a stream-like tube that brought them into another larger room. There was a pool in its middle and high windows with panoramic views of several floating platforms.
A few moments later, the shutters closed and a huge tube with glowing alien symbols slowly rose out of the pool. The lights on the cube went out and the windows opened again, revealing a terrifying sight: what looked like active bombs flashing red lights under the floating platforms. At the same time, the players' backpacks began to glow red and the countdown began with two minutes and 45 seconds left.
The next step of the event came after the players touched the cube, revealing that the room was actually an elevator platform that started to move upwards, bringing the players and the cube into a large, open space.
An alien ship passed by, causing several other platforms – such as the one where the players were sitting – to rise from the ground. Slowly, a nearby cube lit up purple. Another did the same, further back and on the other side of the room. Seconds later, the entire room lit up with a purple glow as the backpack counted the final seconds.
As the timer reached zero, explosions began to sound and players flew across the map alongside a series of huge, glowing cubes. A cinematic causes players to look back and see the alien ship explode. A huge piece of debris flies towards the players' characters, and just before the screen goes black, a message pops up: "Continued in season eight."
Fortnite Chapter Two, season eight, kicked off yesterday, September 13!
