343 heard your concerns about Infinite's radar and is making changes.
After the long-awaited first beta of Halo Infinite, the team at 343 Industries has worked hard to collect and process player feedback from playtesting. Now, in one of 343's characteristically long and in-depth blog updates, the studio shares some of that feedback and how it's implemented, including updates to Infinite's controversial radar changes.
343 originally hinted that Infinite would completely shake up Halo's classic motion-tracking radar when similar changes were introduced in Halo 2017 in 5. players running or shooting rather than all walking speed movements. While the changes make sense for competitive Ranked play, a similar iteration of the Halo Infinite beta wasn't well received by game testers.
The Halo Infinite multiplayer team wrote in their blog post, “HUD“The Battle Sensor, or radar, located in the lower left corner of your ., followed a different set of rules than previous Halo games.” “It only showed enemies running or shooting, which was more in line with Halo 5's 'Threat Tracker'. We knew this app would feel different, maybe even a little controversial, so tech previewWe wanted to get feedback on this as soon as possible.”
The conclusion of the playtest is that the 343 will revert to a much more traditional radar for Halo Infinite, with the blog post saying that "most players" prefer the old-style radar for social matches. “We've updated the Combat Sensor to feel like the old 'Motion Tracker' that shows all movement as well as crouch walking and we need to get it ready for people to test on the next flight,” the post says.
The post includes a lot more details on player feedback that will be applied to the game, with some changes scheduled to arrive before the next beta test, some in time for the game's release on December 8, and some after launch.
If you want to try Halo Infinite before its full launch in December, there's still time to sign up as a Halo Insider for the next beta, which will include 4v4 Arena and Big Team Battle.
