The updates are aimed at helping players find their true skill rating.
Halo Infinite is set to receive some big changes to Ranked gameplay, with adjustments made to help players find their true rank. These changes will be accompanied by a competitive reset on all rungs.
Currently, mid-season changes are scheduled to roll out alongside the ranked reset on February 22, but things won't be as they were at the start of the season.
The team at 343 found that the ranking process was very tolerant of players and competitive skill rankings. This is now set to change. With these upcoming changes, players will likely find themselves at a lower level than they were at the start of the season.
After players complete new placement matches, they will be given a rank closer to their "real skill level". Previously, Halo Infinite placements placed them in a lower bracket so they could reach their true rank throughout the season. Since the reset took place mid-season, 343 Industries made changes to shorten the climb.
While you can only land as high as Diamond 1 at the start of the season, these new promotions could potentially land players as high as Diamond 5.
As 343 Industries developers explain, “This will not affect most players, but will mean Onyx players will spend less time in Diamond as the system already knows they are an Onyx player.”
With the implementation of these changes, the goal is to fix tier inflation issues that have plagued the ranking game throughout this season.
