Marvel World of Heroes has been officially announced!

During the Disney and Marvel D23 Games Showcase event, Niantic concluded the show with the announcement of the new Marvel Universe-centered Marvel World of Heroes game. The trailer for the game showed that real-world players could interact with a portal in the sky by holding a phone and using Doctor Strange's abilities, Cyclops' eye rays and summoning Thor's hammer. More players were then shown firing various plasmas and lasers in a public park.

The meaning of the trailer is that it will be a competitive augmented reality game where players fight each other in the real world, but it also includes the 'Not real game' qualifier at the bottom of the screen, so it will be a little hard to tell what the game is. However, given that it's a Niantic game, we can assume it will rely on GPS data and share some mechanics with Pokemon Go.

Niantic writes in a press release for the game: “Players can create their own unique Super Hero identities and origin stories. Players will need to patrol their neighborhoods to prevent crimes, complete Super Hero missions, and ward off interdimensional threats. As players level up, they'll unlock equipment and abilities, and team up with Marvel Super Heroes like Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain America, and more to battle iconic Super-Villains and save the Multiverse from cosmic and earthly threats.”

The game is called Marvel World of Heroes, coming next year in 2023 and for the game now MarvelWOH.comYou can pre-register.
