Two new projects unrelated to Minecraft or Minecraft Dungeons are said to be in development.

Minecraft developer Mojang is said to be working on two new game projects, but what exactly those games are is currently unclear.

The report comes via Windows Central, which, based on information from reliable sources, states that the developer behind the global phenomenon is currently working on two new projects that are either not suitable for Minecraft or its loot-based RPG Minecraft Dungeons.

As noted by Windows Central, the official Minecraftlikes to post retro-inspired skins on what Minecraft would have been like if it were a 2D, pixelated side-scroller like Terraria, or a top-down farming adventure like Stardew Valley. The posts receive hundreds of thousands of likes, which is not surprising given Minecraft's immense popularity.

While the pixel posts don't necessarily mean that one of Mojang's two new projects could be a pixel-based throwback to the past, it's a fun idea to consider and definitely a sensible one. Or maybe Mojang's new games are something else entirely, completely unrelated to the Minecraft IP. Only time will tell.

Mojang is no stranger to experimenting with Minecraft. The developer has constantly added new ideas to both the game itself and the lucrative IP it has created. The short-lived Minecraft Earth certainly looked promising before it was cancelled, and Minecraft Dungeons seems to have been a huge success recently, reaching 10 million players.

Minecraft Dungeons has continued to receive new expansions and content since its May 2020 release and has recently arrived on Steam. The success of Minecraft Dungeons proves that Mojang has the power to split into new genres, so it will be interesting to see what the team does next.
