Netflix is expanding its gaming business by partnering with the makers of Exploding Kittens on mobile gaming and a TV series. The makers of Exploding Kittens announced that the version, described as "a special version of the popular mobile game", will launch in May, and the Exploding Kittens TV show will launch in 2023.

A version of Exploding Kittens is already available on the App Store and Google Play, but there will be two exclusive cards at launch with Netflix's version. Going forward there will be new cards and game mechanics "shaped around the animation sequence". Netflix spokesperson Tawni Argent told The Verge that the currently available version of Exploding Kittens (which is a paid game) will remain in app stores after the new version is released. Unfortunately, any progress you may have from the current mobile versions will not carry over into Netflix's game as the expansion pack is two separate titles.

The upcoming TV animated series promises to be as weird as we expect. According to a synopsis from a press release, “The animated series Exploding Kittens will focus on the endless conflict between Heaven and Hell.”

The show's executive producers include Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, best known for their work on King of the Hill, and game creators Elan Lee and Matthew Inman. Inman, who also produced the popular comic book The Oatmeal and a cat-themed mobile game called Kitty Letter, will also serve as showrunner.
