New World's numbers were only topped by CS:GO at launch.
The much-anticipated launch of New World was finally released worldwide, with fans flocking to the game in huge numbers, and the game topped the charts with over 600.000 concurrent players in the first few hours after launch.
At the time of writing, Steam's game statistics show New World has 660.981 current players, which is just below the long-running CS:GO in terms of player count today. New World surpasses other Steam games like Dota 2, Apex Legends, and PUBG.
Queues were long for certain New World servers, especially if a popular streamer decided to join that server, but they moved pretty fast. When the servers are synchronized, the game can have more concurrent players on Steam.
Some players are reporting the turn of more than 15.000 people. There are multiple errors that some players also receive. For the most part though, people can re-queue and join a server within a short period of time. Depending on the server, queue times can be five minutes or five hours.
Amazon's latest MMO had two successful beta periods and was released today with a staggered release worldwide, and has worked well for most people. There were still some bugs while waiting in line and some crashes after people got into the game, but for the most part this was a relatively smooth launch for New World.
