According to a post shared by Overwatch 2's game director Aaron Keller, PvP testing begins on March 10 for a small group of "Blizzard staffers, Overwatch League pros, and a few other select groups." Aaron Keller also shared that the Overwatch team is “separating the PvP and PvE experiences of Overwatch 2” to share PvP content with fans sooner.

“Then, our first PvP Beta will start at the end of April for PC in all regions,” Keller said. “This closed beta will include a larger group of testers that we will ask to provide feedback on the game. Our goal at this stage is to test our new features, content and systems before stress-testing servers with a larger player base in future Beta tests.”

According to Keller, the PvP Overwatch 2 beta will be the "most important release" the team has had since the original Overwatch launch. The new damage hero Sojourn will include four maps, hero reworks, 5v5 gameplay and a new game mode.

The news also comes at a time when Activision Blizzard is undergoing major changes. Microsoft is in the process of acquiring the game publisher for more than $68 billion. Employees across the company said they were hopeful about the change in leadership. We won't know how the deal will affect Overwatch development and the Overwatch League until 2023.
