Palworld game has been on the lips of the whole world for days. Because it is very fun to hit the heads of the animals in the game, turn them into veteran workers and make them work all day long. The time I spent on the Gamepass version of this game, which I played for nearly 88 hours, I realized that it was damaged by much fewer updates compared to the Steam version. Problems such as additional errors, performance problems and limited player server support are not seen in the Steam version. But it's acceptable for such a fun early access game.

Which platform did you play Palworld on?

Pal worldThe most notable difference with this version of is that it consistently performs worse. While graphical glitches, pop-ins, and framerate drops are certainly present on Steam, they're much more noticeable on Xbox, and flying around the world for any length of time sometimes results in overly blurry textures that never fully load, even when you get really close to them. In a few instances, a strange lightning-like light started flickering and wouldn't go away until I returned to the main menu. The worst of these inconsistencies are the sound effects on Xbox. Some sounds are extremely low quality and sound like you're listening through an old walkie-talkie, while other sound effects are completely missing. None of these issues were a big enough problem to keep me from playing much of Palworld, but they definitely made this marathon less enjoyable.

There are also some nasty bugs found in the Xbox version that I haven't encountered on Steam. The most painful of these is that when flying on the back of a Pal (especially in high-level areas where there's a lot going on, like snowy mountains or fiery volcanoes) sometimes parts of the world don't load correctly and become intangible, meaning you'll be flying through them and landing below the terrain. means. More than once, I found myself stuck at the bottom of the level as I flew around looking for pockets in the ground where I could glide again to get to the right side of the map. This happened so much that I started paying attention to the fact that some surfaces had blurry textures, because that meant I could move through them. It can be really difficult to endure this level of boredom, and we haven't encountered anything like this on Steam, where the map and its textures load much faster.

There are also some minor features on Steam that are not available on Xbox, for example you cannot name your character or give a nickname to any of your friends. It gets a little confusing when your characters name is “Player 916” instead of your Gamertag and makes communicating with your friends a bit difficult. Missing details like this didn't ruin my fun (after all, I didn't want to name any of these poor animals that I was about to treat so badly anyway because I'd be harvesting their organs), but they definitely contribute to a less premium feel.

While all of these issues caused some anxiety, collectively they only slightly affected my enjoyment. There are still dozens of interesting Friends to hunt down, funny pranks to pull off in the open world, and some truly fascinating survival mechanics to get completely lost in. All of this holds true despite the low frame rate and occasional game crashes, but at least it makes my recommendation a little less enthusiastic for now. If you're not one to tolerate a few rough edges and a little dirt in your survival games, it might be best to wait a bit before jumping in.

The version of Palworld on Xbox and Microsoft Store may not be as polished as the Steam version, but that doesn't mean it's not still a lot of fun. Performance is clearly worse, audio issues are noticeable, you won't be able to give nicknames to your beloved Friends, and you're limited to a much smaller group of friends. All of this arguably adds up to a worse experience, but at least I was able to ignore the vast majority of these bumps in the road with relative ease, because underneath it all is the same great survival game that I couldn't put down. Over time, I expect Xbox-specific issues to be cleared up as this Early Access dark horse continues to evolve – until then, Xbox gamers still have a solid game in their hands.
