GSC Game World wants more time to “realize our vision”.

Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl, the long-awaited new addition to GSC Game World's cult shooter franchise, has been delayed. The studio said today that instead of arriving in April as planned, the game will now launch on December 8th.

“This additional seven months of development is required to realize our vision and achieve the desired state of the game,” GSC Game World said in a statement. Said. “Stalker 2 is the largest project in GSC history and requires extensive testing and polishing. We believe that development should take as long as necessary, especially when it comes to a project like this.”

The program may also be affected by the decision to introduce NFTs into the game late last year. The reaction from the players was so intense that the studio shelved the plan the next day, and while there was no mention of it in the delay announcement, this type of last-minute comeback is bound to cause some degree of chaos. The length of the delay – more than half a year – also suggests that Stalker 2 needs more than a little tweaking and tweaking.

Despite the closeness of the original release date, we haven't actually seen much beyond Stalker 2's system requirements and a few short, highly curated gameplay videos. That hopefully starts to change soon: GSC Game World has promised "more information, updates, and showcases" to come throughout this year.
