Some users see that Google Search results are linked when they search within the TikTok app. This feature was detected while the Google antitrust lawsuit was ongoing.

TikTok search results may soon have a link to Google results.

By application researcher Radu Oncescuan identified featureshows the TikTok search results page with a link to search on Google for the same query. In another screenshot shared by Oncescu, a TikTok pop-up read “TikTok does not endorse or take responsibility for search results from Google" he is writing.

Google declined to comment. It confirmed to Insider that it is testing the feature in some markets. The addition of linked Google results to the TikTok app is the latest and most significant example of the short-form video app's push into search. Earlier this month, we noticed that TikTok was quietly adding Wikipedia snippets that linked directly to the site. The snippets didn't appear for every search, but they appear to appear for some locations, companies, and people. TikTok spokesperson Zachary Kizer told The Verge that this feature has been live for several months.

The backdrop of the Google and TikTok partnership is the potentially pivotal antitrust case currently ongoing against Google. The U.S. Department of Justice alleges that Google unlawfully maintains search dominance through expensive deals with companies like Apple that keep Google as the default search engine on products.

At the same time, TikTok may come under increased scrutiny from regulators after the European Commission named the company on a list of “gatekeepers” who must comply with new rules under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The DMA is an attempt to crack down on anti-competitive practices at big tech companies, and listed firms will be required to comply with certain rules depending on how they are regulated. For example, messaging apps must be interoperable with other platforms, and users must be able to install third-party applications and app stores.
