The dates for both North American and European TwitchCons were announced today via the official TwitchCon Twitter account.

Broadcast contracts for both continents are scheduled for 2022. North American TwitchCon will be held in San Diego in October 2022, while Amsterdam will once again host the European event, this time in July 2022.

Alongside this information, Twitch also released details about its decision to schedule the event. Twitch cited 2021 as its biggest year in terms of viewer growth and content creation. With the total number of Twitch Affiliates exceeding two million, viewers have similarly skyrocketed since the start of the pandemic.

Currently, Twitch plans to host both events in person. But he also said he understands the evolving situation around the pandemic. “Of course, these are still uncertain times and our plans will remain flexible as needed,” Twitch said.

Esports tournaments have seen a slow return to in-person and LAN events, gradually integrating players and fans into stadiums. As the Delta variant grows, Twitch says its "top priority when planning TwitchCon is safety" and that the company will "closely follow local health guidelines and recommendations."

If health and safety guidelines allow, TwitchCon 2022 will be the first time the event has been irl since 2019. In 2020 and 2021, both the North American and European conventions were canceled, but an online event called GlitchCon was held. In 2019, TwitchCon first came to Amsterdam in Europe, since it was the only irl event European fans had a chance to attend.

For streamers and fans alike, TwitchCon 2022 could be a return to IRL content.
