Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Spicy Pepper Locations and How to Grow Spicy Peppers

Spicy Pepper is probably one of the most important items in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. One of these can make the difference between surviving or dying in certain areas of the game. Here's our guide to help you collect more Spicy Peppers in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How to grow Spicy Peppers in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Spicy Pepper item has a special use: you gain warmth and essentially resistance to harsh cold weather. You'll learn this mechanic very soon as you explore the Great Sky Island starting area. The temperature drops in the snow-covered sections leading to Gutanbac Temple, causing Link to shiver. Then, in just a few seconds, his health is slowly depleted.

However, it has a few drawbacks. First, you'll find just a few of these plants as you wander around. Then, much later, you'll go to areas with freezing temperatures (i.e. all of Hebra and parts of Gerudo). This can lead to a situation where you need cold-proof foods but forget where the Spicy Peppers are.

Fortunately, there is a faster way to collect more Spicy Peppers in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. First, you must get the Purah Pad Camera and Sensor+ upgrades. These come from Robbie, a researcher you'll meet at Lookout Landing. The first is given to you on the Abyss, and the second a little later, in Hateno Village. You can learn more in our Purah Pad Camera and Sensor guide.

Now, assuming you have these, here's what you need to do:

  • Find any Spicy Pepper – Find any Spicy Pepper in growing or better yet drop one from your inventory.
  • Take a picture – hold the L button and select the Camera function. Make sure the Spicy Pepper nameplate is visible, then press the A button to take a photo. It should then be added to your Compendium.
  • Open your world map and press the Y button to open the Sensor Summary. Browse the ingredient options and choose the Spicy Pepper. This makes the item your active Sensor target.

With this in mind, you will see the radar details in the lower right corner of your screen. This will tell you the general direction of the node/farmable point. You will also hear a ping beeping faster as you get closer.

From there, stick around to collect Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Spicy Pepper items. But this time, there is the Sensor helping you along the way. The area surrounding the Gutanbac Temple has the most knots, allowing you to get around 30 of them in just a few minutes. There are others, such as the central district and some spots in Hyrule. Note that such resources will respawn after a few days in-game.

Another thing to note is that you will want to cook the Spicy Peppers in a pot for cooking rather than frying them on an open fire. Spicy Sautéed Peppers (i.e. one to five of these) or Spicy Pepper Steaks (i.e. with one type of meat) will provide more healing and longer heat time.

Finally, there are other potions and items that can provide greater cold resistance. Examples of these are Archaic Hot Greaves, various armor pieces sold by vendors at Rito and Gerudo. By using them with the Spicy Pepper food, you can protect yourself from even the harshest freezing temperatures.
