It looks like the team won't be able to manage seasons for both MCC and Infinite.

In light of the upcoming release of Halo: Infinite, 343 Industries has announced that the next eighth season will be the final season of Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

As posted on the official Halo Waypoint blog and reported by Eurogamer, it made 343 announcements yesterday. There's no specific release date for the eighth season, other than "this fall," but the developers have said it will be the game's final season.

"As a studio, it's not ideal to run and continue to release seasonal updates for two different multiplayer games at the same time," said Michael Fahrny, executive producer of 343's broadcast team. Therefore, once Infinite's free-to-play multiplayer is released, The Master Chief Collection will no longer receive seasonal updates.

This does not mean that the game will no longer be supported. Fahrny assured fans that The Master Chief Collection will continue to see updates after Infinite's release, including expanded modding support, bug fixes, and new features. He said these updates will "drop off when they're ready" rather than following a season-like structure. All future updates will be free and it looks like it will last until at least the end of 2022.

Fahrny concluded the announcement by reassuring fans that more specific information will be available early next year after the development team has had a chance to work on everything and formulate plans for the future. But until then, they're hoping players will be able to enjoy season eight when it launches later this fall.
