Microsoft experienced a huge increase in Xbox Series X|S sales following the release of the Starfield space adventure. Moreover, this was the best week of 2023 for Xbox console sales.

According to GfK data highlighted by GamesIndustry.biz, sales of the two current-generation Xbox consoles were up 2% on a week-on-week basis for the week ending September 76. (An increase that is certainly linked to Starfield) This positions it as the best week so far in 2023 for Xbox sales in the UK, and the week after (ending September 9) as the second best week of 2023. And Starfield has a big role in that.

Starfield was officially released on September 6. However, it was available in early access starting September 1 for those who purchased the Premium Edition. Additionally, for the week ending September 2, the standard Xbox Series X console showed a 46% sales increase.

This is a huge boost for Microsoft and Xbox. This follows a slow year for Xbox hardware, with sales falling 23% for the year through the end of August. The increase is also due to the launch of a new Xbox Series S version.

The Xbox Series S 1TB version accounted for 2% of sales in the week ending September 24. The new console version is around £50 ($62) more expensive than the standard Series S model. However, it has a larger memory than the standard version.

This is quite useful for a game like Starfield that has a file size of over 100 GB. Additionally, sales data will be encouraging for Xbox and Microsoft in the never-ending console war.
