Alice: Madness Returns hasn't had a good time on Steam. After being delisted in late 2016 due to issues with DRM publisher Electronic Arts, Madness Returns returned to Steam in late February this year. Less than four months later, it was removed from the platform again. Steam "At the publisher's request, Alice: Madness Returns is no longer available for sale on Steam." has been told.
The reason for the sudden disappearance of the game from the platform is not entirely clear.
But video game designer American McGee thinks it might have something to do with another game Akaneiro: Demon Hunters made by Spicy Horse studio. However, while Spicy Horse aims to have Akaneiro removed from sale until its issues are fixed, that doesn't seem to be the case for Alice: Madness Returns.
McGee tweeted over the weekend, “I heard there was an error trying to remove Akaneiro from @Steam and all other Spicy Horse games have been removed as well. We are trying to reach support and resolve this issue. Can anyone at @valvesoftware help fix this faster?” said
McGee was the creative director of American McGee's Alice, released in 2000 by EA. The game gained cult status and was followed in 2011 with Alice: Madness Returns. Fans have been waiting for a third Alice game ever since and have been constantly questioning McGee. The good news is that Alice: Asylum has been officially confirmed as the third game in the series.
The third game in McGee's supremely brutal take on Alice in Wonderland was produced in consultation with the new Mystery studio and over 3000 Patreon supporters. A full PDF of the game's main story outline will be available to everyone, provided you're a Patreon supporter (and of course, don't mind spoilers).
