PGL, the tournament organizer responsible for the first Valve-sponsored CS:GO event of the year, today changed the format of the Americas Regional Major Ranking (RMR) tournament for the Antwerp Major.

The change comes after six teams from North America and South America (various teams participating in the tournament that would qualify for the PGL Antwerp Major) publicly criticized PGL for the method in May.

Jaime Pádua, CEO of FURIA, claimed on Twitter that teams were trying to fix the issue internally with PGL, but the tournament organizer refused to fix it. After the controversy was made public, PGL introduced the format that decided bo3 for the three teams with a 2-3 score in the Americas RMR.

PGL will use the Bucholz system to determine the location of the Swiss system format applicable to the Americas RMR, but in addition the Bucholz system will also determine which team will score 3-2. Teams pointed out that this method was flawed, as teams facing higher ranked opponents would have an advantage.

This is just one of the changes the teams wanted. PGL has yet to introduce the bo3 group for the two teams with a score of 0-3. The PGL Antwerp Major Americas RMR will be played from April 11-14 and the tournament organizer may update the rules once again if backlash continues.
