Battlefield 2042's difficult release process extended to the first months of 2022. After its release, Battlefield 2042 was criticized for its lack of content and too many bugs to count. Every aspect of the game seemed to have some kind of problem, with players on both console and PC having these issues a lot. It looks like the PC version of Battlefield 2042 has suffered more drops than consoles. On Monday, fans discovered that Battlefield 2042 had dropped below 1.000 concurrent players on Steam for the first time since launch.

Steam is the platform where most of the players bought Battlefield 2042 and are currently playing on PC. While some players use EA's own Origin client, Steam is the platform most used by PC gamers. Battlefield 2042 has dropped to the lowest concurrent user count of all time on Steam.

There are many reasons why Battlefield 2042 has fallen so far out of the public eye. Perhaps the biggest reason is that EA and DICE have not been able to deliver seasonal content in the last six months. Also, most of the bugs present at launch still plague players within the game. The developers tried to fix the issues with minor patches and updates, but these were either ineffective or created additional problems.

It's not entirely clear how concurrent Steam user numbers will compare to consoles. However, players have reported that it is quite difficult to find an online lobby on both PlayStation and Xbox.

Battlefield 2042 has some content scheduled for this summer and delayed from spring. This will be the first seasonal content the game has ever received. However, what will happen after this update arrives is anyone's guess. If player numbers continue to drop, it seems unlikely that EA will dedicate resources to updating Battlefield 2042. However, the arrival of the Season One update will pull some players back into the game and give the BF2042 a little longer life.
