The studio is recruiting for its all-new game.

Blizzard Entertainment is doing something new: The Studio bugün He revealed that he's working on a brand new survival game set in "an entirely new universe" and is seeking help to make it happen.

"We're embarking on a journey to a whole new universe, home to a brand new survival game for PC and console," the studio said. “A place full of heroes we haven't met yet, stories to be told and adventures to be had. A vast land of possibilities waiting to be discovered.”

Job listings cover arts, engineering, and design roles, and individual job listings provide a little more insight into what's in store. It's a "new IP for PC/console" set in "a world unlike any other world Blizzard has created", not a "new AAA survival game" and not a spin-off of an existing Blizzard game.

A new Blizzard game is big news – it builds on past victories over the years – but what makes it particularly interesting is the timing, which comes just a week after Microsoft announced its intention to buy Activision Blizzard for $68.7 million. The deal may not last more than a year, but the fact that at some point Microsoft will officially take the lead in the decision-making process cannot be ignored.

The announcement contains two images, neither of which (to my eyes, at least) say much about the future: a few children who stumble upon a portal to a strange fantasy world (with a floating castle) in a park, and an elf character leaping towards a magic mirror hanging in a tree. he is wearing some kind of big bird costume, prepared or not.

While it's still early in the development process, apparently so It's not too soon: Blizzard chief Mike Ybarra said on Twitter that "this project took hours of team playing."

The hiring announcement highlights that Blizzard wants “a diverse team of developers willing to lend their voice, listen and be heard.” We'll see how well Blizzard's teams and Activision Blizzard follow up on such commitments, which emerged amid the turmoil after months of allegations of sexism and harassment in Blizzard's past and present. Ybarra commented last week on efforts to rebuild trust in Blizzard, including the addition of culture, human resources and full-time leadership positions focused on diversity, equality and inclusion, and an increase in the size of Activision Blizzard's compliance and investigation.
