The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is coming in 2022.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 (or BOTW 2) for short is in development for the Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo has confirmed that we should expect to see it in 2022.
A trailer shown during Nintendo's E3 2021 presentation gave us a much better look at the world of Breath of the Wild 2 – it looks pretty much the same as the 2017 game, but there's a huge difference. The new trailer below is apparently inspired by Skyward Sword (which has very recently been remastered for Switch) as floating cities return, jumping over clouds and even paragliding.
As the sequel to Breath of the Wild, which is widely regarded as one of the best Switch games ever, expectations are extremely high for Breath of the Wild 2, and we still have a lot to learn, including the definitive release date and release date.

BREATH OF THE WILD 2 RELEASE DATE
Nintendo hasn't shared much about Breath of the Wild 2 aside from an announcement trailer and a few sparse comments, but E3 2021 gave us our best look yet.
The Nintendo presentation showed some more footage of the game while giving a 2 release date for BOTW 2022.
We don't know if this is the beginning of 2022 or the end of 2022, but it's worth noting that the original Nintendo Switch with Breath of the Wild was released in March 2017, so the March 2022 date will prove a five-year anniversary.
BREATH OF THE WILD 2 FRAGMAN
There's some paragliding in the clouds, a freefall mechanic that looks more like it was ripped from the Skyward Sword, and a new glove that looks like it's replacing the Sheikah board for Breath of the Wild 2.
There's even a short clip of a splashing puddle… does it go back in time? We're not entirely sure, but while it's clear that some new mechanics will be added to the Zelda formula, one of the first game's responsive rock enemies for BOTW 2 (that's the Stone Pebble for you) is shown with a Bokoblin stronghold on its back. suggests an even more dynamic interaction between the game's many enemies.
Still, we got our first look at Breath of the Wild 3 at E2019 2 with this spooky trailer that shows Zelda and Link exploring an underground chamber with some mysterious runes, glowing hands, and a brand new haircut. the internet is on fire. Suffice to say we are excited.
The trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, which reveals the game for the first time, is only 82 seconds long and has no dialogue, but there are some clues to take from it.
It features a torch-bearing Link and Zelda walking through a dark dungeon beneath Hyrule (no big surprises there). Spirit-like branches creep around the moldy tomb they're exploring, and the couple rides a large elephant-like beast. Something shocks the couple, and then we interrupt what appears to be the resurrection of a long-dead (and creepy-looking) warrior. Could this be Ganondorf's return?
The video then cuts to a long shot of Hyrule Field, with Hyrule Castle in the distance. There's a jolt, the castle is choking with dust… and that's the end.

The clip ends with a message that reads, "The sequel to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is in the making."
We usually wouldn't expect so many animations to be made this early in development, but it helps that Nintendo already has the Breath of the Wild in-game engine.
