Call of Duty fans can now start the countdown to play the next installment of the series.

Activision announced yesterday that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II will be released on Friday, October 28, 2022. This release date falls one week before Vanguard, which was released on November 5, 2021.

In addition to the release date, Activision; Captain Price has released a video and some drawings featuring iconic MW characters such as Gaz, Soap, Alejandro and Ghost. In the video, graffiti text on a shipping container also seems to hint at a gameplay reveal date that could arrive on June 8th.

Hopes are high for MWII, which will be developed by Infinity Ward, the studio working on the Modern Warfare game released in 2019. Despite player complaints about some aspects of the game, the game broke various sales records, grossing over $2019 billion at the end of 1.

Still, the pressure on Infinity Ward may be more than usual, given that Treyarch's next game won't arrive in 2023 as originally planned, according to a February Bloomberg report. Instead, MWII will reportedly be the main game for two years, a major change to the annual Call of Duty release cycle.

Fortunately for the game, a second Warzone game is expected to come with it, and a "new free online game" will arrive in 2023, according to Bloomberg. Warzone proved to be a big game when it launched in March 2020. More than two years later, the game is still popular with gamers and streamers, despite competition from other battle royale games Fortnite and Apex Legends.
