Modern Warfare 3 brings back Call of Duty's slide-cancel move. This is an advanced move used by high-skill players to slide and avoid enemy fire, essentially throwing off their opponent's aim and making themselves harder to track. While this move doesn't feel as overpowered and broken as it did in Modern Warfare 2019, it's still a powerful move mechanic to use. If you're looking for how to do this sweat-inducing move for yourself, our guide will help you.
How to Slide-Cancel?
Similar to the original version of the Slide-Cancel move in previous games, to Slide-Cancel when playing Modern Warfare 3 requires you to quickly press the crouch button twice and jump while running with your designated thumbstick or button. The quick combination of the three inputs will create the sliding motion and then quickly cancel the animation, resulting in a smoother movement that makes it harder for your enemies to follow you.
This feature doesn't work like in previous years, as the Slide-Cancel feature in Modern Warfare 3 doesn't reset your Tac Sprint, meaning you can't use unlimited sprints to get around maps faster. This is best used to surprise your opponents when sliding around corners and through doors.
Here are the default button combinations depending on your platform:
Play Station: O, O, X
Xbox: B, B, A
PC: Shift, Shift, Space or C,C,Space
Slide-cancel tips
Using these button combinations, you essentially want to slide, jump, and aim your gun. Take some time during private matches to practice and get into the rhythm. It's really all about timing here.
It may also be helpful to remap your buttons to an easier layout. On a controller, it can be useful to use the tactical layout to slide and crouch with R3 instead of the O or B button. This change can be found in Modern Warfare 3's controller settings, and we have a full settings guide for MW3 that can help you get the best performance across all game modes.
Attaching Tactical Pads to your boat loadout slot is another good way to improve your slide inhibition, as this perk increases your slide distance and allows you to precisely aim your weapon while sliding.
