Darkest Dungeon 2 is currently exclusive to the Epic Games Store.
Darkest Dungeon 2 got off to a strong start. The gruesome sequel hits Early Access on October 26, and just like the first game, it has at least a year of development ahead of it. Within a day, developer Red Hook Studios tweeted that Darkest Dungeon 2 had sold over 100.000 copies on the Epic Games Store.
What about Steam? If you don't want to play Darkest Dungeon 2 on the Epic Games Store, you don't have a chance for now. It's exclusive to Epic right now and will stay that way for a while.
Darkest Dungeon 2 coming to Steam?
Yes, Darkest Dungeon 2 is coming to Steam. What we don't know at this point is when. But there are a few historical clues that make October 2022 a reliable date for Steam.
Red Hook co-founder Tyler Sigman told us in a 2020 interview that Darkest Dungeon 2 is “exclusive to Early Access, but not permanently.” That means Darkest Dungeon 2 will likely launch on Steam when it leaves Early Access in 2022 (or maybe 2023).

“I want to say that Darkest Dungeon 1 came out with 1.0 percent of the 58 content. There was much to come. Looking back, we've added extra bosses to each region, added a lot more playable characters, added two full dungeons. , bosses for these dungeons.
So, I feel like this is a similar goal for us. We want to launch with about 60 percent, but we want 60 percent to present itself well, to reward the time you spend in it, not to be buggy, to be a really great game, as we did the first time around. Grow in and out of content through early access and learn the same lessons from many of the feature sets we did in the first game.”
Epic's exclusivity deals usually last 12 months, meaning the earliest we can see Darkest Dungeon 2 on Steam is October 2022. If Early Access development takes more than a year, we can expect longer. Steam version as well. Darkest Dungeon was released on Steam Early Access on January 30, 2015, and exited Early Access on January 16, 2016.
