Following the disappointing Summer Split, DRX announced the departure of head coach cvMax.

Announcing the news on Twitter, the team said that cvMax and the team came to a decision together.

“Today we are announcing the departure of Head Coach Kim 'cvMax' Dae Ho by mutual agreement,” DRX said. “We sincerely thank you for your hard work and service over the past two years. We wish you the best in your future.”

While the team qualified for the Spring Playoffs by finishing the Spring with a record 9-9, they struggled after losing to T1 in the playoff quarterfinals. DRX lost their first nine matches in the LCK Summer Split before taking one of their two victories against Fredit BRION. DRX finished with the lowest 2-16 series record and 9-34 game record, both in the LCK.

On May 31, cvMax's contract with DRX was extended through the 2022 season, according to Riot's Global Contracts Database. Coach signed with DRX in November 2019 and coached the team for over a year before being suspended in December 2020 for allegedly harassing team members when Griffin was head coach. It returned to the DRX in May 2021 after the suspension was lifted.
