Artificial Intelligence Company Named Elon Musk X.AI was founded in Nevada.
As first reported by The Wall Street Journal, Elon Musk has started a new company dedicated to artificial intelligence and it's called X.AI. Musk is the director of the company, which was stated to be founded last month in a Nevada filing, and Jared Birchall, the director of Musk's family office, as his secretary. The filing, also obtained by The Verge, shows that Musk founded the company on March 9, 2023.
Rumors that Musk will establish an artificial intelligence company have been circulating for days; A report from Business Insider revealed that Musk has purchased thousands of graphics processing units (GPUs) to power an upcoming generative artificial intelligence product. The Financial Times similarly reported that Musk plans to set up an artificial intelligence firm to compete with Microsoft-backed OpenAI. It was even reported that Musk sought funds from SpaceX and Tesla investors to establish the company.
During an interview on Twitter Spaces, when Musk was asked about all the GPUs he buys, the billionaire didn't mention his plans to start an artificial intelligence company, saying "it seems like everybody and their dogs are buying GPUs at this point." The so-called X.AI name is X Corp., which he has since assigned to Twitter. his name matches his brand and the “X” tag he applies to his vision of the “everything app”.
Musk has openly opposed artificial intelligence startup OpenAI, which he co-founded in 2015 but left in 2018, and recently signed a letter calling for a break from "giant artificial intelligence experiments." He's become a household name in recent months thanks to technologies like OpenAI, ChatGPT and GPT-4, and is partly responsible for starting Microsoft and Google's effort to more deeply integrate AI tools into many of their products.
