FX series based on James Clavell's bestselling book Shogun, received critical acclaim, reaching nine million views for its premiere alone. The process of bringing the series to life began in 2018 and was a painstaking process to ensure even the smallest details were correct. Well, let's move on to the subject that everyone is wondering about: Will the second season of the Shogun series come?

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Shogun showrunners Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo view the series as a limited project and aren't eager to commit to a full-length project anytime soon.

“We took the story to the end of the book and put a period at the end of that sentence. We love the ending of the book; That was one of the reasons we both knew we wanted to do it, and we ended up in that exact place. I have been a part of TV series like this in the past, you build a huge factory and it only produces 10 cars and closes the shop. “This is very sad.” says Marx.

Will the Second Season of Shogun Be Released?

Marks continued by explaining that a producer wrote an instruction manual on how to create the right look for the show's time period. He hopes he can pass on that knowledge at some point.

“Hopefully someone else—maybe a friend—will at some point need a production guide on feudal Japan and I'll say, 'Here, use this book. I can say, 'This will save you 11 months.'"

“[Shogun] is not like a regular TV series. "If we were in a position to promote it, we'd be on set filming season two right now, not just in the writers' room." added Kondo.

The duo turned the nearly 1.000-page novel into a 10-episode series and, with the help of famous Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada, managed to capture the cultural accuracy of 17th-century Japan. Sanada starred in the series, produced it, and also served as a cultural consultant, handling everything from developing the Japanese dialogue in the script to casting many of the young Japanese actors. He even made sure the traditional costumes were correct. In short, if there is no surprise, the second season of the Shogun series will not be shot.

Shogun airs with its new episodes on Tuesdays on FX and Hulu (Disney+ platform for Turkey).
