Valve co-founder and president Gabe Newell was spotted deploying a Steam Deck with camera crews, according to two Redditors.

First reported by VGC, Redditors bitfiddler0 and SeattleRainPidgeons saw someone they claim to be Gabe Newell deliver Steam Decks to people's doorsteps. While bitfinddler0 and SeattleRainPidgeons both received a Steam Deck directly from Gabe Newell, only bitfiddler0 had a Steam Deck reservation in advance.

After receiving what they described as a "spam-looking email" stating their Steam Deck would arrive early and someone had to be home to sign it, bitfiddler0 tasked his wife with picking up the package while she was on a ski trip. It seems that the delivery person was Gabe Newell, who hand-delivered bitfiddler0's Steam Deck.

The Redditor's wife noted that there were camera crews accompanying the "delivery", a detail shared on both Redditor accounts. In an edit of the letter, bitfiddler0 attached a picture from the front door cameras at the behest of his wife to prove that all is well. On the second account, SeattleRainPidgeons didn't have a Steam Deck reservation but still got one. The SeattleRainPidgeons roommate identified the man walking to the neighbor's house as Gabe Newell, after noticing a camera crew tracking a man walking into the neighbor's house.

The original post reads, “While I was loading things into my truck, I saw a camera crew go out to my neighbor's house.” “My roommate found out that the man being followed was Gaben, I didn't believe him, our other roommate later confirmed that it was indeed Gabe.”

When Newell left his Steam Deck with his neighbor, SeattleRainPidgeons and his roommates shouted “Hello Gabe!” yell. The Valve president then asked how many were in the house, took the appropriate number of Steam Decks from the van, and handed one to each of his roommates. Neither SeattleRainPidgeons nor their roommates had previous Steam Deck reservations. The Redditor believes that images of Newell giving them Steam Decks could be used in some sort of promotional or other marketing material.
