Google Adds Explore Stream to Home Page

Google is testing adding Explore Feed to its valuable desktop homepage. The search giant says it is experimenting with adding the feed. News headlines, weather forecasts, stock prices and sports scores are displayed below the traditional Google Search box.

The search giant previously added Explore Feed to its US homepage on mobile devices in 2018.

Google spokesperson Lara Levin confirmed the change in a statement to The Verge, stating that this is an experiment currently running in India. Any change to google.com, which remains the world's most visited website, is significant.

The search giant had previously experimented with the desktop home page. Last year it tested a series of widget-like cards on its desktop homepage that displayed a similar mix of news stories, weather forecasts and stock information.

As MSPowerUser points out, Google's experimental interface is similar to the one Microsoft offers on its search engine Bing, which already includes a long list of news and other information. I'll always be fond of the simplicity of Google's traditional interface, but after over a decade of being able to search directly from my browser's address bar, I have to admit that I almost never visit the search engine's home page anymore.
