Layers of Fear System Requirements Layers of Fear's Steam Demo On May 15, Bloober Team also released the game's system requirements and cinematic intro.

Layers of Fear (opens in new tab), the latest installment in Bloober Team's wildly successful gothic horror franchise, has me quite confused. Since it has exactly the same name, I thought it was a straight up remake of the not-so-distant 2016 original. But the developers are touting it as the series' "crowned artifact" (opens in new tab), which stinks of arrogance for a remake. After researching a bit more, I realized that this was remakes of both Layers of Fear 1 and 2, plus a number of extra pieces, including a new chapter designed to complete the story.

All this will be released next month, but if you want to try before you buy, you will be able to do so in a few days. Bloober Team has announced that a Steam demo for Layers of Fear will be coming out of the closet on Monday, May 15th. The demo will run for a full week and will disappear again on May 22.

That's not all the Bloober Team has revealed, either. The studio has also released the game's cinematic intro, which you can watch above. The images depict a woman entering an eerie lighthouse, while an ominous narrative plays over the images. Layers of Fear (and by proxy) One of my biggest questions about Bloober's upcoming remake of Silent Hill 2 (opens in new tab) is whether the writing will be any better than the absolute crap they've presented on The Medium. Considering the opening sentences of the trailer, “I once had everything. My palate is full. You might think I'm putting on Cole Phelps' expression of 'doubt', given the words "My nostrils were aroused".

Bloober Team wrapped up the trio of Layers of Fear announcements with a look at the game's system requirements. This is an interesting case as the game is one of the first games to fully depend on Unreal Engine 5. The full list of requirements is below, but a quick scan of the specs looks pretty flexible with the minimum specs requiring a Core i5-4690, GTX 1060 and 8GB of RAM. If you want to experience the game in all its chilling glory, you'll need the Core i7-9700k, 3080Ti and 6GB of RAM. It also only requires 20 gigs of disk space, which is a relief after the massive downloads of Jedi Survivor and Redfall.

The full game will be released in June. While I've never been the biggest fan of Bloober Team, I loved the first game's ability to rearrange environments behind my back, and I'm a little curious to see it do that with some nifty new graphics.
