How to Throw Different Passes
Welcome to the Madden NFL 22 Guide and Walkthrough for Madden NFL 22. In this section, we will teach you how to throw all the different types of passes available to you. Depending on the situation, you may need to use a bullet, tap or lob pass to get around the defender. Or you may need to use a high or low pass to keep the ball in a spot where only your receiver can catch it. Either way, we've got you covered.
How to Throw a Bullet Gateway
First the bullet pass. Use this when your player is tightly covered and you need to get the ball into his hands. We like to use this for obliques, curls, and most routes that go through the middle. This is because your shooting window is usually quite small in that area of the pitch, so it's important to get the ball there quickly.
To fire a bullet pass, all you have to do is hold down your targeted receiver button. So, if you want to hit your "X" receiver, hold down the X button (A on Xbox) until the ball is out of your QB's hand. This will put the extra zipper on the ball.
How to Discard Touch Toggle
The touch transition is closer to your normal transition. You throw the ball into the right area and give your wide angle the best chance to catch it. It lives somewhere between the bullet and the lobe.
However, throwing a touch pass is probably the hardest pass to describe. Basically, you want to press the button, but not too long. It should be somewhere between pressing lightly and holding the button down. It takes some getting used to, but it's a good pass to have in your arsenal.
How to Redeem Lob Pass
The lob allows you to launch a ball in front of your receiver to pass the defender. This pass is best used on the move or on vertical routes when your player has a step towards the defender. You can also use it on deep crosses and other routes crossing the area if you find that a DB leaves a large window open beyond your large area.
You have to tap the button lightly to throw a lob. Give a little kiss with your finger and you'll have a picture perfect lob crossing.
How to Lower Low or High Ball
As you can see in the image above, to change the height of your throw you need to use L2 or L1 (LT or LB on Xbox) depending on what you want to do. You can use them in conjunction with other types of passes to put the ball exactly where it needs to be.
For example, let's say you're looking for a curl route for your narrow end to try and get a key first. Unfortunately, you realize that the defender is covering it tightly and the corner sits in an area that leaves you with a small window. You know your TE is longer than any of the other players, so your best shot is probably a high bullet pass as soon as it breaks. The key to completing tough passes in Madden NFL 22 is knowing where and when to use all these different types of passes together.
