The big Game of Thrones mod for Mount and Blade 2 arrives in early access. Realm of Thrones lets you conquer Westeros in the brilliant sequel to TaleWorlds.
Game of Thrones and Mount and Blade go together like a Stark and an untimely death. Bringing George RR Martin's terrifying fantasy saga to Mount and Blade: Warband to A World of Ice and Fire we already had. It was inevitable that some ambitious modders would try to bring the treacherous lands of Westeros, the sequel to TaleWorlds' medieval life simulation.
But that inevitability doesn't make Realm of Thrones any less impressive as a project. The total conversion released to Early Access yesterday features a rigorous Thrones-themed overhaul of Bannerlord. The mod transfers Bannerlord to the A Song of Ice and Fire universe, especially during the War of the Five Kings. In other words, the point in the story where all the major groups take part.
Major features include a massive main map that adds all of Westeros and a “large part” of Essos – the eastern continent of Game of Thrones that was “liberated” by Daenerys Targaryen. The new map includes 17 new towns and 80 villages, key locations such as Kings' Landing and Winterfell, and 18 new kingdoms that cover many of the main rivals in Game of Thrones' race for the Iron Throne. The mod even includes a simulation of life in the far north, with "Hundreds of Wights" wandering beyond the wall.
But what's really impressive about Realm of Thrones is the level of detail added to the overhaul. There are unique troop types for individual houses and “hundreds” of special armor sets for specific factions such as the Dothraki, Thenns, and Night's Watch. As you can see in the title image of Jon Snow and the Night's Watch, they're also great fun. Look at those furry kids!

Obviously, you will need a copy of Mount and Blade II to run. The creator of the mod, Carolina Warlord, also has a Discord channel and to support the continued development of the mod. It has Patreon.
There's no set date for a final release yet, with Realm of Thrones' ModDB page stating that it's "still a work in progress and will be for a while."
