An unexpected new chapter of the Paranormal Activity series is on the way. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a surprising innovation is coming to Paranormal Activity: The horror movie is being brought to the stage and a theatrical adaptation is coming to London's West End. Simon Friend brings the film to the stage – he has previously adapted films such as Life of Pi for Broadway, which won five Olivier Awards and three Tonys, as well as The Da Vinci Code and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
Meanwhile, the game, scripted by Levi Holloway, is reportedly in the early stages of development. Holloway's other recent writing credits include the spooky Broadway play Gray House, starring Tatiana Maslany, Laurie Metcalf, and Hereditary's Millicent Simmonds.
The first Paranormal Activity movie was released in 2007 and followed a young couple, played by Katie Featherstone and Micah Sloat, who are haunted by a supernatural entity in their home and set up a camera to document what is haunting them. The found footage nature of the film meant that it was made on a budget of just $15.000, but it went on to earn nearly $200 million at the box office.
Paranormal Activity 2 was released in 2010, and further installments were released in 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2015, with the most recent being Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, released on Paramount Plus in 2021.
