Redfall got off to a strong start on Xbox despite the negative response. Arkane company's latest game received great attention on Xbox.

It looks like Redfall got off to a strong start despite moderate reception on Xbox consoles.

Redfall, which was released last week, received mixed reception from critics, with players calling Arkane's new game a disappointment. Despite that, Arkane's shooter seems to have gotten off to a strong start in life, as True Achievements(opens in new tab) reports that Redfall is the second biggest Xbox game launch of 2023, trailing only Atomic Heart.

True Achievements reported that for the week ending May 7, Redfall was the third largest game in terms of pure playtime on Xbox systems. Standing behind the first-place Fortnite and the second-place Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Redfall is the two undisputed giants in terms of player base and player retention across all systems, let alone Xbox consoles.

Redfall has the advantage of being released via the Xbox Game Pass subscription service, which no doubt helped both him and Atomic Heart have a really strong launch on Xbox consoles. Despite the seemingly negative rumors, Xbox users were intrigued enough to give Arkane's latest effort a shot.

This is a really big surprise for Arkane's new game. The launch of Redfall clearly did not go as planned, with even Xbox head Phil Spencer admitting that he was “disappointed” with the game's launch, and Xbox's failure to take steps earlier in Redfall's development to help Arkane develop the Unreal Engine-built game and steer clear of technical issues. was close.

Our own Redfall review, which awarded Arkane's new game 2,5 out of five stars, described the game as "rushed, incomplete and unsatisfying". While Arkane's latest game had some really interesting vampire designs and an interesting world to explore, we thought Redfall was really disappointed with its limited storyline and large number of bugs.
