League of Legends' ongoing struggle with toxics is an issue that manifests itself in all game modes, despite several attempts to reward players for games they don't toxic. To further encourage good behavior in League, Riot Games is taking a new approach this year based on the Honor 2.0 project.

TimTamMonster, the new product lead for behavior systems at Riot, detailed major changes to League's Honor system this year and provided updates on trends that internal punishment systems have noticed.

According to this developer blog post, only five percent of players in LoL's playerbase are marked as "consistently destructive", whether through deliberate feeding, win-trade, or other gameplay methods aimed at ruining the game for others. The other 95 percent are recipients of 86 percent of the reports, even though they're not consistently damaging.

Penalties similar to post-game reporting will also come to Champion selection reporting as it wasn't implemented as planned. “Champion Pick reports account for only 3,2 percent of reports today,” TimTamMonster said. “But we know your experience in every part of the game is still important.”

Some of the changes to encouraging positive behavior in League include new rewards that players can earn by acting with dignity throughout the season. Players who reach Honor 5 or have earned Honor in their previous game will receive a special recall animation. TimTamMonster also hinted that there is a "special skin" currently in development for players who reach Honor 5 before the season ends. Players will continue to earn annual rewards for high appreciation levels, including wards and skins for Warwick and Twitch.

As the year progresses, players will find that more emphasis is placed on behavioral systems within League, including further promoting the Honor system.
