Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda reiterated his earlier hopeful views on blockchain and the token, commonly referred to as NFT, in a new interview. The interview was published on April 15 via Yahoo Japan and translated by VGC.

“There is a possibility of creating innovative and interesting content from users' ideas if we can also provide incentives to those who contribute to development using technologies like blockchain, rather than relying on goodwill,” Matsuda told Yahoo Japan.

Matusda was widely criticized last January when he said in a New Year's message that Square Enix would explore and explore blockchain technology. At the time, he wrote, "'I am aware of some people who are currently voicing reservations about these new trends for the majority of gamers." Both journalists and many commentators on social media loved this statement.

Matusda's dream is that the token technology can be used to incentivize and reward the efforts of these players.

“We have provided a finished product in most games so far, and players have played that content,” Matsuda said. However, there are players in the world who want to contribute to making games more interesting.” said.

Matsuda's statements were made in an atmosphere of continued skepticism and distrust towards token and blockchain games as they continue to be plagued by hacking and scam attempts.

Matsuda isn't the only high-profile figure in the gaming industry to embrace token technology, even former gaming figures are embracing it. Ultima creator Richard Garriott recently said that his next game will use blockchain technology.
