Starfield PC System Requirements

Bethesda has released two sets of system requirements, as is always the case with PC games these days. These are divided into Minimum features and Recommended features. I'm not entirely sure what settings these requirements are for, but given how loose the minimum specs are, you can sneak past the game with a very modest PC.

The year 2330 has arrived and humanity has discovered the stars.

Starfield Minimum PC System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10, version 21H1 (10.0.19043)
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7-6800K
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Display card: AMD Radeon RX 5700, NVIDIA GeForce 1070 Ti
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 125GB free space
  • Additional Notes: SSD Required

Recommended PC System Requirements

  • OS: Updated Windows 10 or 11
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, Intel i5-10600K
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Display card: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Network connection: Broadband internet connection
  • Storage: 125GB free space
  • Additional Notes: SSD Required

There are a few things that should be noted right away. Both the minimum and recommended specs call for 16GB of RAM, so you can be pretty sure that an 8GB system won't meet that. 8GB of RAM has been a bit of a hit lately on Windows PCs, so this shouldn't come as a surprise.

Storage space is another big issue. It is important to note that an SSD is required. That's not all that surprising when you consider the big deal both PS5 and Xbox Series X made with their SSDs at launch. Both manufacturers have attributed to open world gaming why SSDs are the product of the future, because SSDs allow huge regions to load instantly without obnoxious loading screens every time you switch fields.

Also, I don't know about others, but my PC has Starfield pre-installed and takes up 125GB of storage, not 140GB. This may also include an update after the initial system requirements were released, but it's important to note that the 125GB figure is missing about 15GB. However, if you're using the Xbox Series X, the game only takes up around 100GB.
