A new Star Wars event for 2022 – The Hidden Empire has been announced by Marvel Comics.
Announced in text on the last page of Star Wars: The War of the Bounty Hunters #13, released on October 5, this is described as an "epic" story planned for 2022.
The Hidden Empire is the third planned installment of Star Wars writer Charles Soule's Qi'ra trilogy, following The War of the Bounty Hunters and the upcoming Crimson Reign limited series.
It's also just the beginning of a three-part story focused on Qi'ra and her ultimate purpose, Part I,” writes Soule in her newsletter. soon."
Soule didn't give any details on what Qi'Ra's plan was or who she would be working with in this Star Wars: The Hidden Empire storyline.
Lucasfilm previously used the name 'The Hidden Empire' for a Star Wars project – the 1995 game Star Wars: Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire. In this (no longer canon) story set between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, Vader and Empire develop cloaking technology and use it for a new stealth TIE fighter called the V38 Phantom. Throughout the game, Admiral Ackbar leads a group of pilots who manage to destroy the V38 Phantom manufacturing facility but are unable to save the technology for the Rebellion.
Concealment devices, although rare, have appeared in modern Star Wars canon – incidentally, by Darth Maul, Qi'Ra's former Crimson Dawn boss.
The next installment in this Star Wars trilogy begins on December 1 with Star Wars: Crimson Reign #1 (5/5) and Star Wars: The Hidden Empire is scheduled for 2022.
