As reported in the early stages of development at Ubisoft Montreal, it's a long way from trying to break into the battle royale realm with a new third-person hero shooter in an ad-hoc genre called Pathfinder.

Reportedly titled Pathfinder, the game is said to be a PvPvE battle royale with a visual appearance similar to Ubisoft's Hyper Scape.

It comes from Tom Henderson, via Exputer, who says he's seen pictures and videos of the game in action and that it's similar to Ubisoft's current battle royale game Hyper Scape, but more "cartoon in nature."

Pathfinder is said to be a PvPvE in battle royale where you have to fight both AI enemies and other opponents as you head towards the center of a map to defeat a boss-like enemy. To reach the boss in the center, players will need to overcome an outer and inner wall through a series of doors, breakable or locked doors change per match.

Henderson reports that the game will be a "hero shooter" with different playable characters, each with their own unique abilities. Pathfinder will also reportedly feature a Destiny-like social area where players can shop, test weapons at the shooting range, participate in events, and interact with other players.

Pathfinder comes from the same studio that made Hyper Scape in 28, which will be shut down on April 2020. In a statement announcing the shutdown of Hyper Scape servers, Ubisoft stated that it will take "significant learnings" from the failed battle royale.

If and when Pathfinder does come out officially, it won't be the only Ubisoft battle royale game in the works. Ubisoft announced the free Ghost Recon: Frontline last year to indefinitely delay a scheduled multiplayer test for the game to create the "best possible experience."
