Gaming's favorite Stephen King wannabe returns to Bright Falls with a brand new look.
It's been 11 years since Alan Wake's last trip to Bright Falls. But today the tormented writer returns with the release of Alan Wake Remastered, which sheds new light on Remedy Entertainment's torch thriller: there's a new trailer above.
Debuting in 2010, Alan Wake follows the famous pulp writer on vacation in a mysterious town where his gruesome stories are starting to come true - creating a tense thriller that blasts you off shady monsters with a humble flashlight. This remake doesn't significantly overhaul this original drama, but it does spruce up a bit with increased resolutions, denser environments, and sharper characters. Alan Wake's two DLC stories, The Signal and The Writer, are also included for free and have the same makeover.
If you've never opened the book about Alan Wake, the Remastered edition might be a good spot to jump in, especially for people who are familiar with Remedy through the fantastic Control. But in his impressions of Alan Wake Remastered, Robin felt that the game's "core graphics upgrade" struggled to justify spending twice the price of the current game on PC.
“I wasn't exactly disappointed – they never claimed Alan Wake Remastered was more than just a core graphics update,” Robin wrote. “It does what it aims to do. But for a PC gamer – especially someone who might already own Alan Wake thanks to a Steam sale or an Epic giveaway – I don't think it's enough here to make it any more valuable. Twice the price of the original. This is a release that targets much more to console owners, PC apparently a bit accidental.”
The one-day patch set out to fix a few of the graphics issues found in pre-release builds. The cinematics have been upgraded from 1080p to 4K, in progress, and a few sequences where Alan uses his old character model have been corrected.
