The wait may finally be over.
Console players have long waited for Apex Legends' next-gen update, which was temporarily delayed from the original 2021 release date that the developers were aiming for. However, it seems that these players will not have to wait any longer.
Earlier today, a tweet from PlayStation Game Size tells gamers to look into an 80GB PS5 version of Apex, suggesting that the next-gen update could be just around the corner.
Gamers have been able to play Apex on PS5 and Xbox Series X, but the game generally feels the same on these consoles as it did on last-gen consoles because the title is only available with backward compatibility. One of the next-gen upgrades that players can look forward to is a significant increase in framerate. Apex on console tops out at 60fps. However, the next-gen version of the game promises a pretty high framerate, with the developers aiming for 120fps for the latest machines.
Respawn's developers have been clear for the past few months that the next-gen update will arrive in 2022. Thanks to some file data released by Shrugtal back in November, it seemed that the update was imminent and could possibly coincide with a season 11 event. or the season 12 update.
Now, with the most tangible evidence that the next-gen update is coming soon, the season 12 date seems likely. And with the next-gen update getting off track this early in the year, the reported 2022 target date for console crossover to reach Apex also seems more likely.
Fear not, console warriors: your frame rates will be smooth very soon and your resolutions will be so sharp you could cut your fingers.
