Dive deep into the latest activity.
If Apex Legends fans are disappointed by the lack of content accompanying the latest Stories from Bangalore's Outlands cinematics (and its new legendary skin that crashes the game when someone tries to use it), they will be pleased with today's announcement of the Dark Depths event.
Taking cues from deep-sea creatures and even a bit of mythology, the Dark Depths event will bring new cosmetics and more to the game on January 11th.
Of particular note for Arenas fans, the event also introduced the new Arenas map, Habitat. A glance at the map the trailer provided evokes more than a few images of Kings Canyon and Skull Town, with the giant leviathan skeleton in the background. Tall cliffs and giant pink flowers adorning the mountains behind it indicate that this map is located on the planet Gaia. Respawn Entertainment confirmed in its blog update the fact that this is indeed Gaea and that Habitat 4 is one of the many islands that, along with Storm Point, make up the New Antillian archipelago on the planet.
Also, those giant white things on the map? Yes, these are Leviathan eggs. The official story for the new map is that it once served as a leviathan breeding ground for the IMC. Wildlife is a huge part of Storm Point as a map, and the battle royale mode includes a literal egg-laying mechanic if players want to kick it out with some AI spiders. However, since these eggs are "steel-hard" and designed to be used as a bulwark, you don't have to worry about disturbing any creatures in them.
The event also comes with flash events that offer free rewards each week to players who complete in-game challenges. These rewards include loot boxes, battle pass stars, crafting materials, and epic layered cosmetics like this shiny, squid-like Revenant skin.
All in all, there are 40 new items that come into the game with the event that you can unlock or buy. Respawn will also have Dark Depth thematic packs on sale that are guaranteed to contain an item from the event collection, but will also make the event's cosmetics unlockable in standard Apex packs.
If you can't wait to dive into the Dark Depths event, there's no need to wait long. The event will be released on January 11 and will run for three weeks, with the store closing on February 1.
