Ubisoft has officially announced Assassin's Creed Mirage, the new action-adventure game in the stealth and parkour focused series!
Emerging as part of Ubisoft Forward's Assassin's Creed Showcase, Assassin's Creed Mirage takes you into the story of Basim Ibn Ishaq's character, and the story takes place in the city of Baghdad twenty years before the events of Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Developer Ubisoft Bordeaux appears to have used these three design themes related to the original game: stealth, parkour, and assassinations.
No gameplay has been shown yet at the event, but a CGI cinematic trailer has been released focusing on Basim's rise from a simple street thief to a master assassin. Narrative director Sarah Beaulieu said we can expect to see lots of historical personalities, including political leaders, in the Mirage story.
In an additional briefing shown to the press, Ubisoft Bordeaux revealed a number of additional details. As with the first games in the series, Mirage will be a city game and Baghdad will be divided into four different regions. Beyond Baghdad, we will also visit Alamut, the fortress headquarters of the Hidden Ones.
The game's open world was designed with both trails and privacy in mind, so lots of useful details await us, from rooftops to hiding spots. A new, more detailed detection system is also said to have been made to allow for greater detail in stealth encounters. Ubisoft says you can expect the return of some classic parkour moves, including the corner swing, and the free run pace to be faster than in previous games.
A return to a more classic game template also means the RPG nature of modern Assassin's Creed games has been removed; Mirage is described as a more linear game with a heavy focus on the story. Like the original games, there will be extensions of linear quest chains followed by chapters where you can choose from a number of different quests.
Some of these missions will be what Ubisoft calls 'Black Box missions', which are the main assassination missions. Not many details were given, but they were said to provide "opportunities to identify ways and means of defeating the next target." Maybe they're taking advantage of AC Unity's assassination missions, which provide a number of different ways to infiltrate a target, capture territory, and kill it.
While Assassin's Creed Mirage is definitely going back to its roots, this modern take on ideas introduces a few new concepts. First introduced in Assassin's Creed Origins, the eagle companion is back. Ubisoft says using bird's vision is useful for plotting stealth routes, but you'll need to watch out for new archer foes that can shoot your eagle out of the sky. Basim will also have access to 'Assassin's Focus', an ability that slows time and allows him to execute multiple assassinations at once.
Beyond these additions, it appears that Basim's skill set is within the tradition of the series, including a blown archer, traps, and mines.
Assassin's Creed Mirage will launch on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS2023, PS5, PC and Amazon Luna in 4. The game is currently $ 59,99 with the price pre-order opened.
