The beta version of Battlefield Mobile will be released this year in Indonesia and the Philippines.
In addition to Battlefield 2042, EA is looking to expand the shooter franchise into new markets and categories by bringing the franchise to mobile devices. The publisher has shared new details about the mobile version regarding its free-to-play business model, available content, release date, hardware requirements, and more. This is mostly beta related and a more final look at Battlefield Mobile is expected sometime soon.
As of the release date, EA plans to release the game in Indonesia and the Philippines this fall. This first game test will only be available on Android. The test plans to start small before expanding to more players in more regions. However, there is no word yet on when Battlefield Mobile will launch in the US, UK or other regions.
Test availability is limited, so it's recommended to pre-register on the Google Play Store page when the game becomes available to players. However, not everyone who pre-registers will be selected for the beta.
Regarding the business model, Battlefield Mobile is free-to-play, powered by microtransactions. EA said that the only items you can buy for real money are cosmetics. The game will also have its own battle pass, which is exclusive to the game and is not synced to the console/PC version of Battlefield.
As for the type of device you need, EA said it's still running tests to optimize the game for "various devices." You will need Android 7.0 or newer for the first beta. More phone models will be supported in the future.
EA also announced that Battlefield Mobile will not be cross-playing with other versions because the game is “made specifically for mobile devices”.
In terms of content, EA said that the Grand Bazaar map and Conquest mode will be available at launch for beta, with more content coming later. “The game is still in development and the team is working to make Battlefield Mobile really feel like Battlefield,” EA said. Said.
As with other betas for EA games and developers in general, progress during the testing period will not carry over to the full version of Battlefield Mobile at release.
Battlefield Mobile was developed by Industrial Toys, EA's mobile studio founded by Bungie veteran Alex Seropian. EA said, “We have assembled a dedicated team of mobile game development experts to lead the creation of Battlefield Mobile in Industrial. Overall, it's a collaborative effort with our established Battlefield team, DICE Studio, and other partners.”
