Smart airflow case from the future!
CES 2022 continues at full speed with announcements and explanations. While the introductions of the RTX 3050 and RTX 3090 Ti were exciting, the CyberpowerPC Kinetic Series chassis was the first precursor to the most striking design.
One of the biggest names in prebuilt gaming PCs, CyberpowerPC often uses bright RGB lighting in its builds to show off its aesthetic prowess. The company takes this capability and implements it in a more practical model with the Kinetic Series case, which has smart airflow in the form of 18 copper-colored self-adjusting vents. Blending form and function, the Kinetic Series case would look more at home on a desk in Outer Wilds or any other sci-fi title.
According to the CyberpowerPC official announcement page, 18 front-facing vents “turn on and off according to your system's internal temperature and cooling needs.” CyberpowerPC aims to “create a burst of creativity across the industry…”. Given the high-concept design and potential benefits of self-regulating a case's temperature, there's no doubt that people and other companies will be following how things shake out for the Kinetic Series chassis.
Although notes are taken from kinetic architecture, there is an argument one can make against a case that self-regulates airflow using vents: Why not just add more airflow? In the announcement video, CyberpowerPC addresses its goal of providing the appropriate amount of airflow for any situation.
Another concern is the lack of dust filters in the large vent walls. Having a unique, sci-fi-looking computer case is great, but the need for extra cleaning and dusting can be a huge drawback for potential buyers. Still, the concept alone is nearly enough to ignore some brow-raising elements.
CyberpowerPC has not revealed any version or pricing information, thanks to its high-concept design and extra technology, and will likely give a premium to the Kinetic Series chassis. The closest thing to the release date is a sticker that says “Coming soon”; that could mean we'll be on hand until the third Matrix trilogy comes out.
The Kinetic Series case announcement is just one of many exciting announcements so far at CES 2022. The showcase will take place from 5 to 8 January.
